Hate crimes, love, Islam, culture, language and life are all open to discussion in the critically-acclaimed play,"Unveiled: A One Woman Play by Rohina Malik" at the McAninch Arts Center (MAC), located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of Dupage, Sunday, Oct. 15 at 3 and 7 p.m.

Observes the Huffington Post, "Using education to battle ignorance has become Malik's personal mission with 'Unveiled'." This play is recommended for ages 16 and up. Malik portrays five Muslim women in a post-9/11 world as they share tea and reveal what lies beneath the veil in this compelling one-woman show.

The Chicago Tribune hails Malik as "a remarkable new theatrical voice in Chicago. In her rich, upbeat and very enjoyable 70-minute collection of five character studies of Muslim women in modern-day America, Malik gives voice to characters from whom we hear far too little in the theater."

Malik is a critically acclaimed Chicago playwright and solo performance artist. She was born and raised in London, England, of South Asian heritage. Her one-woman play "Unveiled" was developed and had its world premiere in 2009 at Chicago's 16th Street Theater, and went on to be presented in two South African Theater festivals: The Grahamstown Arts Festival and the 969 Festival in Johannesburg, as well as in theaters across the U.S., including Victory Gardens (2010), and Canada; and at churches, mosques and synagogues and numerous universities including Princeton University, Yale University, NYU, University of Chicago, Stanford University. Awards and honors included two nominations for the Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Play ("The Mecca Tales," 2015; "Yasmina's Necklace," 2016) and the Y award with the Evanston YWCA for her work to end racism.

She is a Resident Playwright at Chicago Dramatists, an Artistic Associate at the 16th Street Theater, an Artistic Associate at Voyage Theater Company in NYC and an Artistic affiliate at the American Blues theater.
