Chi Phil Presents SIDE BY SIDE At Piotrowski Park

After a summer of unprecedented popularity, Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic returns for the Columbus Day long weekend at Piotrowski Park, presented as a part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks series. Chi Phil is proud to bring this unique music opportunity to students and community musicians of all ages across the city of Chicago once again through this signature outreach program, in which community musicians rehearse and perform free concerts alongside Chi Phil's world-class musicians in Chicago's beautiful parks. In summer 2018, over 400 community musicians registered to rehearse and perform in parks in Chicago's west and south side neighborhoods, reaching over 1200 audience members.

Piotrowski Park is located in Little Village on Chicago's south side. The vibrant, diverse neighborhood has been home to many waves of immigrants since the 19th century and is now called "La Villita" by the area's many Latino community members. This side-by-side concert is a part of Chicago Philharmonic's larger mission to bring exciting, affordable music experiences to Chicago's south and west sides.

The side-by-side orchestra will perform works by composers such as Florence Price, musical prodigy and key figure in the Chicago Black Renaissance, as well as Manuel De Falla, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, John Williams, and more. Students and community musicians will rehearse with the orchestra and guest conductor Emanuele Andrizzi at 2:00pm, followed by a free concert at 5:00pm. Participation and audience attendance is free and open to the public. The program is as follows:

Since the Chicago Philharmonic launched Side by Side in 2015, the program has been received enthusiastically by participants and audience members alike and has steadily expanded. 2018 brings six side-by-side concerts across Chicago. Chi Phil will present Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic at South Shore Cultural Center with a holiday-themed program on December 16.
