Bailiwick's BOMBS AWAY! Returns To Center On Halsted 8/7-23

Bailiwick's Jeff Recommended musical homage to Broadway Musicals BOMBS AWAY! will return for three weekends August 7 to 23 at the Hoover-Leppen Theatre at the Center on Halsted. The original cast of Kate Garassino, Anna Stevens, Eric Martin, and Rus Rainear again are featured.

BOMBS AWAY will be performed in the Hoover-Leppen Theater of the Center on Halsted, 3656 North Halsted. Performance times are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 and Sunday at 5:00 August 7 through August 23, with an additional Wednesday 8:00 performance on August 12. In BOMBS AWAY! by Sally Deering and Larry Bornitker, America's foremost musicologist Dr. Barry Mishkin presents his infamous collection of numbers cut from Broadway's classic musicals. Against the wishes of the writers of the classic musicals and despite a stop order directive from a judge, Mishkin's players perform unheard numbers such as "Krakatoa" which was the original island setting for South Pacific, "I Own A Nail Salon" from the rarely seen flash-forward ending of Miss Saigon, "I Shake Me Green Shillelagh" which at one point anchored Finian's Rainbow, and The catchy "See Ya In Ikea" from Mamma Mia.

Of course, all the songs and scenes are really the original creations of Bortniker and Deering and have left audiences cheering. Critics for the initial production called the show "Terrifically absurd! The show has its heart is in the right place. Nothing is too sacred to spoof, and if you're a fan of double-entendres, this may be your show. (Chicago Tribune) Time Out Chicago called it "Comedy gold! Of the five performers, Kate Garassino-equal parts vulgar and adorable-comes closest to walking away with the whole thing." And Colin Douglas said "Bailiwick is back, and better than ever!" BOMBS AWAY! is directed by David Zak, with musical direction by Jimmy Morehead, costumes by Jeff Jones, and musical staging by Christopher Pazdernik.

BOMBS AWAY! features four Bailiwick regulars -- Kate Garassino (Jerry Springer, SPIDER WOMAN), Eric Martin (THRILL ME, Jerry Springer), Rus Rainear (A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE, MY FAVORITE YEAR), and newcomer Anna Stevens.
