Adventure Stage Chicago (ASC), the participatory arts program of Northwestern Settlement (the Settlement), announces the title of their Trailblazers Summer Camp culminating performance, Among Us, Directed by Andrew Marikis and Stephanie Chavara.

Through a grant from the city's Department of Family and Support Services, 30 Chicago youth are participating in a free, 8-week performing arts camp. Campers learn to work as an ensemble with professional artist mentors on creating an original theatre piece, inspired by issues young people face every day. Trailblazers focused on a theme of what it means to be a monster while crafting their original production. Performances take place August 18th at 2pm and 7pm, at the Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble St. Tickets are free and can be reserved at adventurestage.org or by calling 773-342-4141.

About Trailblazers Summer Camp

From June 26 - August 18, Adventure Stage Chicago hosts 30 city youth as part of Trailblazers Summer Camp, supported by the Department of Family and Support Services since 2015. During camp, young artists will also participate in field trips, swimming, outdoor activities and movie days. Previous sessions have included trips to Brookfield Zoo and Maggie Daley Park, as well as collaborations with Chicago Youth Shakespeare and ASC mainstage production teams. With guidance from professional artist mentors, campers will work as an ensemble to devise an original performance over the course of the 8-week summer session. Past Trailblazers productions have touched upon bullying, technology, terminal illness, mental health and healing, media, and gun violence. Youth and mentors collaborate on all aspects of the show, from performance to production roles.

About Trailblazers

Since 2011, ASC's Trailblazers mentorship program has inspired young people to lead the creative process, devising work inspired by pressing issues in their everyday lives. In 2016, ASC received a grant from Allstate Insurance Company, expanding Trailblazers to Rowe Elementary School's After-School Program. Also in 2016, ASC established Senior Trailblazers, a group of original and long-tenured mentees participating in master classes and taking on additional production responsibilities based on their interests within theatre arts.

About Northwestern Settlement and Adventure Stage Chicago:

Northwestern Settlement nurtures, educates and inspires children and families across Chicago. The Settlement's success results from a commitment to treating every person who enters its doors with dignity and respect, while supporting them with transformational programming designed to disrupt generational poverty.
