About Face Theatre Celebrates the Royal Wedding with Wonka Ball 2011 Fundraiser, 4/21

Polish your tiaras! Before Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot across the pond, About Face Theatre is throwing its own royal wedding at WONKA BALL 2011! AFT's premier fundraising event will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the School of the Art Institute Ballroom, 112 S. Michigan Ave., at 6:30 pm with a VIP reception at 5:30 pm. "The Wonka Ball has always been one of Chicago's most fun, dynamic, over-the-top fundraising events," comments About Face Executive Director Jason Held. "But this year, we also use the occasion to mark the historic passage of Illinois' Civil Union Act and celebrate AFT's 15th anniversary as a leader in Chicago's theatre community," adds Held.

WONKA BALL's 600 guests will be treated like queens and kings at this year's stunning new party venue where the evening will include a silent auction, open bar, mouth-watering edibles from some of Chicago's best restaurants including Atwood Café, Garrett Popcorn, J&L Catering, Polo Café, Terry's Toffees and more. WONKA BALL wouldn't be complete without plenty of music, dancing, entertainment and of course lots of surprises-including a "Wonka-style" visit from Queen Elizabeth herself!

WONKA will also include the presentation of the Leppen Leadership Awards. Named for About Face Youth Theatre supporter Michael Leppen, the annual honor recognizes those whose efforts on behalf of About Face Theatre and the LGBTQA community, empower youth leaders to take action and encourage LGBTQA adults and youth to create intergenerational dialogue and understanding.

Proceeds from the WONKA BALL support About Face Theatre programming including itsgroundbreaking Youth Theatre, which creates critically acclaimed new work by and about LGBTQA youth and their allies. The Youth Theatre has performed on major stages across the country, and, through its outreach tour, changes the lives of thousands of young people each year. AFT also boasts its annual, award-winning main stage season and the ambitious XYZ Festival of New Works.
