CAST to Open PROOF, 5/9

By:

CAST (Carolinas Actors Studio Theatre) presents the smart, witty, and compassionate "Proof," by David Auburn, winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.

Opening night on May 9 is sold out. The show runs through June 1. Performances are weekly on Thursday, Friday, andSaturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for select matinees. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by calling (704) 455-8542 or at NCCAST.com. Tickets are $28 adults; $22 seniors (60+) and $18 students.

"Proof" is the story of Catherine, a troubled young woman who has spent years caring for her father, a brilliant but unstable mathematician. Following his death, she must deal with the arrival of her estranged sister and the attentions of her father's former student who hopes to find valuable work in the notebooks he left behind. A burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father's madness - or genius - did she inherit? The production explores the tangible/intangible nature of love contrasted with the mysteries of science.

Cast/Creative Team:

Karina Roberts-Caporino is Claire, her father's caretaker before his passing and a prodigy in her own right ... or is she more fragile than that and perhaps living in her own delusion?

Frances Bendert is Claire's older sister Catherine, who comes home to take care of her sister and to take her away from the madness of their childhood.

George Gray (Metrolina Theatre Association Best Actor in a Cameo Role) is their father Robert, a genius mathematician who left behind as their only inheritance their old Chicago home ... and his "proof."

Scott Miller is Robert's student Hal, hungry for discovery and torn between his attraction for Claire and his desire to get his hands on Robert's original notebooks.
