The Belmont Theatre (formerly York Little Theatre) is set to produce the gothic musical thriller Jekyll & Hyde February 17-19 and 23-26 . The show tells the story of two men - one a doctor, passionate and romantic - the other, a terrifying madman; and two women - one, beautiful and trusting -the other, beautiful and trusting only herself. Both women are in love with the same man, and both are unaware of his dark secret. The story unfolds in gripping fashion with unforgettable songs like "Someone Like You" and "A New Life."
Jekyll & Hyde features music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Wildhorn, Leslie Bricusse and Steve Cuden and book by Leslie Bricusse. The show's score was nominated for a Grammy and the 1997 Broadway production was nominated for a Tony. The show is the longest running show in the history of the Plymouth Theater.
Beautiful ballads with a pop music element and big group numbers brings the epic tale of good and evil to life on the stage. Featuring the hit song "This Is The Moment," the show has been on four major tours, had more than 100 international productions and 32 recordings in 28 different languages. "This Is The Moment" has been performed at the Olympics, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the 1996 Democratic Convention and the presidential inauguration of George W. Bush. The show has also spawned a group of devoted fans who follow the show and call themselves "Jekkies."
Over thirty actors, actresses and dancers will take the stage under the direction of Rene Staub. Music Direction is by Richard Anderson. Choreography is by Sarah Flynn. Joshua Krevsky will play the title dual roles while Michael Anderson plays John Utterson, Jekyll's lawyer and friend. Hillary Miller (Emma Carew) and Carly Lafferty (Lucy Harris) play the women in love with Jekyll. Jeff Gilbert plays Sir Danvers Carew, Emma's father.
Other featured players include Pamela Eshler (Lady Beaconsfield), Nik Olson (Simon Stride), Mike McGuiness (Lord Savage/Spider), Mark Hargreaves (Bishop of Basingstoke), Noah Schmidt (Sir Archibald Proops), Jim Mahoney (General Lord Glossop) and Marissa Hoover (Nellie).
