STAGE TUBE: First Look at Highlights of Fulton Theatre's DREAMGIRLS

By: Apr. 26, 2013

The Fulton Theatre continues its 160th Anniversary Season with the flashy, bold show business musical Dreamgirls, representing the first time the show will be produced or presented in the Lancaster region. Dreamgirls is a co-production with Maine State Music Theatre and is directed and choreographed by the Fulton's Artistic Director, Marc Robin. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at highlights of the production below.

The plot focuses on the rise of the Dreamettes-loosely inspired by Motown stars such as Diana Ross and The Supremes. That trio of singers consists of Deena Jones, played by Britney Coleman who recently played the role in the Marriott Lincolnshire's production of Dreamgirls, also directed by Marc Robin; Lorelle Robinson, played by Trista Dollison (Broadway: The Lion King, Porgy and Bess, Easter Mysteries); and perhaps the most iconic character from the musical, Effie, will be played by Bryonha Marie Parham, (Broadway: Porgy and Bess, Ragtime; extensive regional credits.) Effie is eventually replaced by singer Michelle Morris, played by Karissa Harris (Fulton: Hairspray; Disney Cruise Lines, numerous regional credits).

The cast also features Byron Glenn Willis as Curtis Taylor, Jr. (Marriott Lincolnshire, Goodman, numerous Chicago credits); Kelvin Roston, Jr. as James Thunder Early (Marriott Lincolnshire: Dreamgirls; Goodman Theatre, numerous Chicago credits); Eric B. Anthony as C.C. White (Fulton: Hairspray; Broadway: Mary Poppins, Hairspray, The Lion King); ; Paul-Jordan Jansen as Wayne; and Trinity P. Murdock as Marty.

The ensemble also features Brian Bohr, Steve Calzaretta, Antoinette Comer, Elgin Giles, Laurel Haitoff, Jeremiah Haley. Terrance Reddick, Khadijah Rolle, Britton Smith and La'Nette Wallace and Tamara Young.

The Music Director is Jason Wetzel, with scenic design by Robert Andrew Kovach, lighting designed by Paul Black and costumes designed by Kurt Alger.

Dreamgirls runs from April 23rd to May 12th. Regular ticket prices range from $20-$65 and are available through the Fulton Box Office at 717-397-7425 or online at www.thefulton.org. Fulton Theatre is located at 12 N Prince Street, Lancaster, PA.
