R&H Releases Statement Regarding Early Closing of Lancaster Production of EVITA
BroadwayWorld recently reported that PRiMA Theatre's production of Evita would be closing early due to a violation of rights. Read the full story, as well as the statement by PRiMA Theatre Executive Producer Mitch Nugent here.
We have since received an official statement from licensing company R&H regarding the specifics of the rights violations that occurred, which is as follows:
"Every license we enter into, for productions large and small, contains a clear clause stating that no changes can be made to the production without prior written approval from us, on behalf of the authors of the particular piece. It came to our attention during rehearsals that the director at Prima Arts was making unauthorized changes to his production of EVITA. Despite our making contact, explaining that the production had to stick to the show as licensed, and our receiving their assurances that it would, the show opened with the unauthorized changes. The only choice the theater had, having failed to abide by the licensing agreement, was to put the show back to the way it was written. The theater decided it did not have time to do so."
