The Paul Robeson Performing Arts Company is proud to present "Issues of Color," a powerful monologue play by Anne-Margaret Childress that sheds light on the experiences of Black people growing up and living in the Syracuse area.

Created by Childress, "Issues of Color" draws inspiration from heartfelt interviews conducted with Syracuse residents, explicitly focusing on the stories of people of color in Central New York. Ms. Childress, an esteemed educator at Syracuse University's African American Studies department, expertly weaves together the narratives of nine characters, providing an intimate glimpse into their lives, dreams, and aspirations in the region. The production feature two songs written by local composer, John M. Canino, for the production, Shades of Me, and I Alone.

Another beloved local talent, Mookey Van Orden, skillfully directs the play. Van Orden won raves for her direction of "Jesus Christ Superstar" at CNY Playhouse last year. Assisting her is another talented individual from the CNY area, Dominique Barr, who contributes as the assistant director. Local singer, Bianca Hallet, is the soloist for the production. Bianca is the narrator for the upcoming Symphoria production of "The Nutcracker."

The Paul Robeson Performing Arts Company (PRPAC), deeply rooted in the Central New York Community since its establishment in 1982, passionately amplifies the voices and experiences of Black and Brown individuals. Through their compelling stories, plays, concerts, and festivals, PRPAC strives to educate, foster dialogue, and inspire change in the community while celebrating the richness of African American traditions.
