Skidmore College Department of Theater to Stage MACBETH This Fall

By:

The Skidmore College Department of Theater is pleased to announce its Fall 2015 Mainstage production, MACBETH by William Shakespeare. This production is directed by published writer, feminist media critic, and Skidmore Theater artist-in-residence/director Holly L. Derr.

Performances run November 20-22 and December 3-6 2015 at 8pm (Sunday matinee at 2pm) at the Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater on the Skidmore College campus.

Synopsis: The immortal classic and dreaded bad luck charm is given new life in this bold, gender- bending production of MACBETH. In a world of witches, war, and madness, Macbeth and his cunning wife will stop at nothing to hold the throne of Scotland. The price of power, however, is greater than they predicted-paranoia, madness, and an army led by the strongest warrior in the land, determined to restore the King's daughter to her throne.

FROM THE DIRECTOR: MACBETH is generally thought of as being about ambition, but really it's about so much more than that. In our production, we complicate questions about the nature of gender, pointing at Shakespeare's underlying theme and reflecting the way gender functions in our more complicated world. We're also using some pretty cool SFX to highlight Shakespeare's use of the supernatural as a storytelling device and a way of exploring questions about mortality, nature, and time.

Tickets: $12 general admission and $8 for students and senior citizens. To reserve seats, call the Skidmore Theater Box Office at (518) 580-5439, email boxoffice@skidmore.edu or find us online on Facebook or at skidmore.edu/academics/theater.
