Kurt Elling Brings Grammy-Winning Jazz to Cooperstown Festival, 7/29
By: Lauren Wolman
The Kurt Elling Quartet with John McLean will perform July 29 at 7:30 pm at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, NY, as part of the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival. Grammy-winner Elling will perform jazz standards as well as songs from his new album, The Gate.
In June, the Jazz Journalists Association named Elling "Male Singer of the Year" for the seventh time in the past ten years, and the DownBeat Critics Poll named him top male vocalist, for the 12th time in a row. JazzWeek awarded The Gate 2011 Record of the Year. The New York Times raves, "Elling is the standout male vocalist of our time." Said The Washington Post, "Since the mid-1990s, no singer in jazz has been as daring, dynamic or interesting as Kurt Elling. With his soaring vocal flights, his edgy lyrics and sense of being on a musical mission, he has come to embody the creative spirit in jazz."Concert tickets are available online, www.CooperstownMusicFest.org; by phone through Brown Paper Tickets, 800.838.3006, or at the door, as available. Tickets are $25 for adults; $15 for students 6-18. The Otesaga Resort Hotel, a grand, century-old hotel overlooking Otsego Lake, is located at 60 Lake Street in Cooperstown. About the Festival
