A new holiday tradition was started a few years ago when the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival presented a staged reading of the Fezziwig section of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in the Mansion at Boscobel. The tradition will continue and expand in December when the actors return to the Mansion for three consecutive weekends to read of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come from the classic novella. Performances are:
Friday, December 2 at 7pmIn the warm glow of the great entry hall of the Mansion at Boscobel, decorated for the holidays, HVSF actors Richard Ercole, Eleanor Handley, Katie Hartke and Stephan Paul Johnson, will retell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Under the direction of HVSF Founding Artistic Director Terrence O'Brien, the actors will take the audience along on the long night's journey from Christmas Past to that which is Yet-to-Come in their trademark style, closer to Dickens than Disney, bringing the text to life without extra frills. The reading will be followed by a special holiday celebration feast and libations in the lower hall.
