Shakespeare Workshop-Hamlet the Detective

EMH Productions runs a Shakespeare workshop at the Ooley Theatre in midtown Sacramento, open to all experience levels for adults and teens age 16 and over. The 2026 session, led by Tana Colburn, meets Saturdays from 10am to 2pm for seven weeks and examines Hamlet: Prince of Denmark through the lens of film-noir detective storytelling, with a focus on how to stage Shakespeare for a contemporary audience. Participants bring their own copy of the play; the Kittredge edition is preferred. The course concludes with a tech week and a single weekend of performances on August 28, 29 and 30. Tuition is $150 per person, covering the seven weeks of instruction plus the performance week. Enrollment is by online form or email, with payment accepted via Venmo or credit card.
