Camp Timberlane

Camp Timberlane is an overnight summer camp for boys on Lake Towanda near Woodruff, in Wisconsin's Northwoods. The property covers more than 250 wooded acres with roughly 2,000 feet of shoreline on an isolated lake; campers live in cabins overlooking the water that have electricity, toilets and showers while keeping a rustic feel. The camp describes itself as genuinely non-competitive: there are no tryouts for the occasional games played against other camps, and everyone who wants to play joins the team with equal playing time. Activities include water sports on the lake, land sports, adventure programming and a crafts program, and the camp says it is a place for anyone to get involved rather than a conventional sports camp. Each summer Timberlane runs more than 40 canoeing, backpacking and rock-climbing trips lasting three to twelve days to sites in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Canada, with an emphasis on protecting the environment.
