According to EWonline, actor Tommy Lee Jones has joined the cast of the upcoming film THE EMPEROR in the role of General Douglas MacArthur.

The film is set in the late summer of 1945, just after the United States has dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, forcing the Japanese to surrender and bringing an end to World War II. MacArthur finds himself dependent on a Japanese expert on his staff, played by Matthew Fox, to make monumental decisions about the fate of Japan and its leader, Emperor Hirohito.

The film's producer Gary Foster commented,"Tommy will bring strength, intelligence, and gravitas to the portrayal of General Douglas MacArthur, a legendary American hero".

Peter Webber will direct the film which is set to be released in theaters sometime in 2013.
