The Hollywood Reporter writes that British actor Russell Tovey has joined Ryan Murphy's LGBT dramedy series LOOKING for HBO from Michael Lannan. He will work alongside previously announced Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez, Murray Bartlett and Scott Bakula.

Tovey will play 'Kevin', a young, successful video gamer. The actor is openly gay but usually plays straight roles. This step -- playing a gay character -- could be "more of a risk" for him, according to an interview he gave with the Independent.

Tovey is known for his portrayal of werewolf 'George Sands' on BBC's Being Human (which spun off in a U.S. version on Syfy).

His upcoming film projects include Blackwood and Effie Gray, as well as the TV movie Talking to the Dead. Tovey's past TV credits include What Remains, The Job Lot, Him & Her, Little Dorrit, Annually Retentive, Mud and more. He starred on Broadway in 2006 in The History Boys.

Andrew Haigh directed the pilot of LOOKING. Production on the rest of the season will kick off this fall, with the network eyeing a 2014 premiere date.
