Deadline reports that Philip Seymour Hoffman is in talks to join Daniel Espinosa's CHILD 44 from Summit Entertainment. The actor would join previously announced cast members Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman, and Joel Kinnaman in the Russian thriller.

The story is based Tom RoB Smith's bestselling novel. Richard Price penned the script which follows, "a member of the Soviet military police who investigates a series of nasty child murders during the Stalin-era Soviet Union. His biggest impediment is a government that refuses to acknowledge a serial killer is in their midst."

Hoffman, who recently received an Oscar nom for his work in The Master, will soon be seen on the big screen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

In 1995, Hoffman joined the LAByrinth Theater Company and has directed and performed in numerous Off-Broadway productions. His performances in two Broadway plays led to two Tony Award nominations: one for Best Leading Actor in True West (2000), and another for Best Featured Actor in Long Day's Journey into Night (2003).
