Netflix Orders Coming-of-Age Comedy Series From Mindy Kaling

Netflix has ordered a new coming-of-age comedy series from Mindy Kaling about the complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl, inspired by Kaling's own childhood.

The ten episode series was co-created by Mindy Kaling (Late Night, The Mindy Project, The Office) and Lang Fisher (The Mindy Project, Brooklyn Nine Nine). The duo also serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers on the series.

The series' other executive producers include Howard Klein (The Office (U.S.), The Mindy Project, Parks and Recreation), David Miner (30 Rock, Master of None) Universal Television is the studio.

Kaling started out as a staff writer on NBC's The Office, later becoming an executive producer on the series where she also played Kelly Kapoor.

Kaling went on to create, executive produce and star in the The Mindy Project, which ran for six seasons, three on FOX and three on Hulu.

Kaling's recent feature film Late Night, in which she serves as producer, writer and star, made a strong debut at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Amazon Studios for a record-breaking North American distribution deal. She recently signed an exclusive, long-term overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, leaving Universal TV where she had been for a eighteen years.
