The Military Channel announced today it will dedicate a night of programming on Tuesday, January 8 starting at 8PM E/P, to commemorate the celebrated career of retired GenerAl Norman Schwarzkopf, who passed away last week. General Schwarzkopf led the allied forces to a routing of Iraq in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, becoming one of the nation's most celebrated military heroes of the era.

A graduate of West Point, General Schwarzkopf's early military career included a tour of duty in Germany as an aide-de-camp to the Commanding General of the Berlin Brigade in the early 1960s, followed by a tour of duty in Vietnam. Nicknamed "Stormin' Norman" by his troops because of his perceived temper, General Schwarzkopf became a national hero seemingly overnight while overseeing the buildup of 700,000 coalition troops, including more than 540,000 U.S. forces, after Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. The Gulf War began on January 17, 1991, with the start of the nearly six-week air campaign against Iraq that was followed by a lightning100-hour ground offensive that pushed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait.

To better understand General Schwarzkopf's remarkable service to the country during this conflict, the Military Channel will air special encore presentations of the following programs which take an in-depth look at the tactics and strategies behind the Gulf War:
