CBS News' chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook will anchor a special "Beyond Cancer" edition of CBS SUNDAY MORNING exploring new frontiers in cancer treatment, how survivors are tackling the illness, new efforts to stave it off and more, to be broadcast March 12 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

The "Beyond Cancer" edition will feature Dr. LaPook's report on the promising field of immunotherapy, in which doctors are using a patient's own immune system to find and kill cancer cells. The therapy, still in clinical trials, has given hope to patients who otherwise have run out of options.

Rita Braver sits down with singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, a breast cancer survivor, who talks about her own treatment and how she uses her fan base to urge women to have mammograms, all while continuing her music career and starting a new clothing line. Erin Moriarty reports on women who decide to forego breast reconstruction surgery following a double mastectomy in what's being described as the "Going Flat" movement.

Ben Tracy tells the emotional story of a family that used their son's struggle with pediatric cancer as the basis for a video game to help others. Martha Teichner looks at the impact diet can have on cancer patients and also what foods you can eat that might stave off cancer. Susan Spencer reports on how researchers have found that using synthetic SCORPION venom helps identify cancer tumors on scans. Spencer also looks at how researchers are working on a simple breath test that can detect cancer, and in another report she explores how cancer treatments that have been successful in dogs might be helpful in humans as well.

Also on the broadcast, Anna Werner looks at the myths vs. reality of the alarming subject of "cancer clusters" across the Americas, while Tracy Smith reports on encouraging breakthroughs in the treatment of pediatric cancers.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00-10:30 AM ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
