I'm aware that this word is a tad overused these days, but THAT was truly EPIC! That may go down as my favorite episode to date of this series. You are about to witness some gushing, so be prepared.

We begin with Daryl, Sasha and Abraham being confronted by Negan's gang. The gang strip the three of their weapons and as leader is about to kill Sasha and Abraham, Daryl blows them all up with a ridiculous weapon of sorts... as you do.

Back in Alexandria, Tara is desperate to chase after Denise who has been kidnapped by the wolf, but Rosita convinces her to stay safe with Carol, Morgan and Eugene. Wolfie encourages Denise to make a run for it with him to the wall. Denise gets attacked, but the wolf saves her and gets bit. Denise promises to save him if he gets her back safely to the infirmary. He agrees, but Carol shoots him dead and Denise arrives at the infirmary safely where Heath, Aaron and Spencer have taken refuge. #ripwolfie (FYI, he appears on Talking Daed and he's super hot and Australian... which I know is redundant).

Glenn and Enid have arrived and look for more weapons in the church. Glenn's plan is to distract the walkers and have Enid climb up the tower and rescue Maggie.

As Rick is making his way through the walkers with Michonne, Gabriel, Judith, Jessie, Sam, Ron and Carl, he decides to change the plan and have them head to the quarry to get vehicles. Gabriel offers to take Judith to the church for safety while they make their way out. Sam starts to have a meltdown and begins whimpering as he is devoured by walkers. Jessie screams and she too is eaten. Rick is forced to chop her arm off to get her to let go of Carl. Ron pulls a gun on Rick and Carl and Michonne kills Ron. However, Ron gets a shot fired off and as A Christmas Story predicted over 30 years ago, he shot his eye out. (Which I guess in the comics, Carl loses an eye?) Rick picks up Carl and races with Michonne to the infirmary where Denise lets them in. (Yes... you read that correct. Jessie, Sam and Ron were all taken out in like 30 seconds!!!)

A grief-stricken Rick heads out into the fray with a machete and just begins hacking away at walkers. Heath, Aaron and a reluctant Spencer head out to help him. Upon seeing that everyone is fighting, Carol, Morgan, Tara, Rosita and yes, even Eugene, head to assist as well. And lo and behold, Father freaking Gabriel finally steps up and decides to help fight as well. Glenn starts shooting walkers to distract them as Enid climbs up the tower. Maggie is about to watch Glenn be devoured when Abraham and Sasha show up to take out all the walkers threatening Glenn. Daryl empties gas into the lake and lights it on fire and they all continue fighting until the walkers are under control and heading to the burning lake to perish. In the aftermath, Rick confides in an unconscious Carl that seeing everybody come together and fight has reminded him what they're doing and he's inspired. Carl squeezes his hand.

Commence gushing - Holy CRAP! That was an epic battle. Seeing absolutely everybody step up, even the weaklings Gabriel and Eugene, as well as Morgan, as they realize that they have to fight was so gratifying that it is actually hard to put into words. And the series of shots of every character fighting solo at the end was the perfect icing on the cake. Cheers to you, Greg Nicotero! The river of fire at the end takes away nothing from the epic beginning with Daryl returning to badasserydom (TM pending) and blowing up Negan's gang. The whole episode from start to finish was a big bucket of win!

And the best part? What they're so damn good at? They wrapped up Alexandria in one episode so they can move on to the next story, which clearly will involve Negan. I'm sad for Rick that he lost Jessie, but her kids were dicks. And Sasha, Abraham and Daryl showing up and saving the day? Good Lord, I can gush all day.

Anyway, that was one hell of a way to usher in the second part of Season Six. Talk about coming back with a bang! Also, anyone know where I can get a poster of Daryl standing on top of that truck lighting the lake on fire? DM me.

Here's a preview for next week's all new episode:
