"Black Panther" writer Joe Robert Cole has been tapped to write the sequel to Activision Blizzard Studios' "Call of Duty," according to Variety.
The studio hired "Sicario 2" director Stefano Sollima to direct the first film, which is an adaptation of the popular video game. No cast has been assembled yet for the first film, but the studio wants a sequel script ready to go as soon as the first film goes into production next year.
Activision Blizzard Studios presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk are producing, along with Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick. Coco Francini is also producing.
Cole, in addition to writing "Black Panther," is working on "Failsafe" at Netflix. He most recently wrote and directed the Netflix movie "All Day and a Night," starring Jeffrey Wright and Ashton Sanders.
