The touching family feature film, A Horse For Summer, written by Ken Lemm and directed by Nancy Criss, has been honored with the "Audience Choice Award" from the 2014 Gwinnett Center International Film Festival, it was announced today.

The film, which stars popular teen actress Mandalynn Carlson as Summer Dean, a troubled teen whom is sent to live with family she didn't know existed, has been positively received as a critical darling since first premiering in Los Angeles in July.

Carlson stars alongside Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman"), Christopher Atkins (The Blue Lagoon), Lee Meriwether ("Batman," "Barnaby Jones"), and Terri Minton, in the film.

After being sent to live with family, the street-hardened Summer Dean ends up doing the wrong thing, but for the right reason. The film weaves together a story about a community finding the meaning of forgiveness.

"I loved working on 'A Horse For Summer,'" says Carlson. "It's a great story with a positive message."

A Horse For Summer is currently running the film festival circuit, and will be heading to DVD in time for the 2014 holiday season. The DVD will be available for purchase in Walmart stores nationwide by Dec. 1.
