Ariadne auf Naxos at Lovinger Theatre/Lehman College

Bronx Opera presents its production of Richard Strauss' beloved Ariadne auf Naxos, performed mostly in English. The Company will perform the revised version of the opera, which premiered in Vienna in 1916, containing a prologue and an opera. Ariadne uniquely combines elements of commedia dell'arte with those of high opera seria, pointing up one of the work's principal themes: the competition between high and low art. Conductor is Eric Kramer; principals are Renee Macdonald as Ariadne; Michael Celentano as Bacchus; and Hannah Friesen as Zerbinetta.
