SOLDIER SONGS Added To LA Opera Off Grand 2018/19 Season

By:

LA Opera has added a performance of Soldier Songs by David T. Little, with film by Bill Morrison, as part of its 2018/19 Off Grand season. Starring baritone David Adam Moore, the multi-media concert presentation directed by Ashley Tata will take place at the Ford Theatres (2580 Cahuenga Boulevard East, Hollywood, 90068) on Saturday, October 13, at 8:30pm.

About Soldier Songs
Soldier Songs combines elements of theater, opera, rock-infused concert music and film footage by Bill Morrison to explore the perceptions versus the realities of a soldier, the exploration of loss and exploitation of innocence, and the difficulty of expressing the truth of war. The libretto, created by composer David T. Little, was adapted from recorded interviews with veterans of five wars. Soldier Songs traces changing perceptions of war in our society and by those who experience it.

Soldier Songs is produced by Beth Morrison Projects, hailed as a "contemporary opera mastermind" (Los Angeles Times) and "the edge of innovation...its own genre" (Opera News). Soldier Songs is conducted by Alan Pierson, leading members of the LA Opera Orchestra.

A monodrama for baritone and chamber orchestra, Soldier Songs will star David Adam Moore, who created the role of the Soldier at the work's 2008 premiere at Le Poisson Rouge in New York and the first fully-staged presentation at the 2011 International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven, Connecticut. He also starred in 2014 performances at the Atlas Theater in Washington D.C., a commercial recording release and 2016 performances with San Diego Opera. He will reprise the role next year with Austin Opera.
