MSG Entertainment, in collaboration with the World Music Institute, announced today that Zakir Hussain's "Masters of Percussion" will perform at New York's Theater at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Tickets are on sale now.

Zakir Hussain is today appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant performances have established him as a National Treasure in his own country of India, while also gaining him worldwide fame. Hussain has toured internationally for decades, showcasing premier percussionists in unforgettable ensemble configurations. For this "Masters of Percussion" performance, Hussain will be joined by: V. Selvaganesh, kanjira and ghatam (clay pot); Steve Smith, drums; Niladri Kumar, sitar; Dilshad Khan, sarangi; Vijay S. Chavan, dholki; Deepak Bhatt, dhol; and other special guest musicians.

With a playing style marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity founded in formidable knowledge and study, Zakir Hussain is the favorite accompanist for many of India's greatest classical musicians and dancers. But he has not let his genius rest there. Widely considered a chief architect of the contemporary world music movement, Zakir's contributions to world music have been unique, with many historic collaborations, including Shakti, which he founded with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar; Remember Shakti; the Diga Rhythm Band; Making Music; Planet Drum with Mickey Hart; Tabla Beat Science; Sangam with Charles Lloyd and Eric Harland; and recordings and performances with artists as diverse as George Harrison, YoYo Ma, Joe Henderson, Van Morrison, Airto Moreira, Pharoah Sanders, Billy Cobham, Mark Morris, Rennie Harris, and the Kodo drummers. His music and extraordinary contribution to the music world were honored in April 2009, with four widely-heralded and sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall's Artist Perspective series.

Tickets are on sale now and are available through Ticketmaster Charge By Phone (1-866-858-0008) and all Ticketmaster Outlets. Tickets are also available at the Madison Square Garden Box Office and online at www.thegarden.com.
