Manilow recently underwent surgery to remove lung cancer.

Barry Manilow is giving his fans a health update after cancelling several performance dates over the last several months. The musician was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, and, during a segment on Good Morning America, expressed concern that his iconic singing voice may not fully return.

"I don't know whether it's coming back,” shared Manilow. “I did my first sound check about a month ago, and I didn't sound like me at all. I just couldn't believe that. That it's over.”

Though he underwent successful surgery to remove the cancer, his recovery took longer than expected, and he admits he is unsure about the future of his performing career.  “I'm in great shape. I'm ready to go. I just hope my voice is," he said, adding. “If I sound good, that would be just great."

The singer first shared the news of his diagnosis on Instagram in December, revealing that a cancerous spot was found on his left lung following a bout of bronchitis. Despite the cancellation or postponement of several dates, Manilow is still set to return to the road this summer, along with performances of his Las Vegas residency. Check out his full list of upcoming dates here.

Manilow's new studio album, What A Time, is due out June 5, marking his first album of new material in nearly 15 years. Produced by Manilow and longtime collaborator Michael Lloyd, What A Time is Manilow’s 33rd studio album and his first almost all-original LP since 2011’s 15 Minutes, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.
