Coming straight out of South East London, rising multi-genre, multifaceted producer TroyBoi is going against grain and breaking free from the grip of an oversaturated, homogenized industry. Since skyrocketing onto the scene in 2013, TroyBoi, née Troy Henry, has left his distinguished mark on the music world on the strength of his unique original productions which blend multicultural influences and hip-hop finesse built atop versatile, hook-laced, trap-infused beats. Now, TroyBoi is setting the new standard with LEFT IS RIGHT, his debut album out today, August 25 via T dot Music.

Listen to LEFT IS RIGHT here:
To support the album, TroyBoi returns to the road later this September on his 'Left Is Right' North American Tour (see dates below), performing an all original music set comprised of new music from LEFT IS RIGHT. Joining him are Louis Futon, YehMe2 and SlumberJack on the tour, with Grandtheft coming onboard for the Los Angeles show September 9 at The Palladium. TroyBoi will also make appearances at Red Rocks Amphitheater on Colorado September 10 and Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas September 24.
On LEFT IS RIGHT, TroyBoi flexes his production and songwriting skills with a new degree of studio wizardry. Collectively, the 20-track album weaves a wide-spanning thread that traverses a diverse selection of global sounds, musical movements, genres and sonic styles. TroyBoi whips hard on the swaggering album opener "B.I.A," via his bold take on trap-leaning bass music constructed over hypnotic vocals and rapid-fire hi-hats. On power single "What You Know"--dubbed a "certified banger" by Complex --he continues the onslaught with a heavy, dubstep-inspired bass bomb that showcases equal parts wobble-quake and melodic craftsmanship. "Her" builds a multilayered, polyrhythmic R&B cut filled with grungy bass as featured vocalists Nefera and Y.A.S turn on the sexy over a harmonious, synth-driven bridge. On "Kurta Kente," TroyBoi layers future beats over a bouncy house framework, while "Flamez" goes for the jugular with a hefty dose of grime muscle.
Elsewhere, the album also includes some of TroyBoi's more recent menacing productions, including "Hooper" featuring Healthy Chill, "O.G.," and "Do You?"LEFT IS RIGHT also spotlights a highly musical kaleidoscope of sounds to which TroyBoi attributes to his multicultural background. British-born, he is of Nigerian, Chinese, Indian and Portuguese descent, which comes alive on album tracks like the Far East-sounding "KINJABANG," recently used by America's Best Dance Crew performers the Kinjaz, and the South Asian-flavored "Mantra."
LEFT IS RIGHT also features the aggressive "Look at Me," a massive collaboration with internationally celebrated rapper/actor and West Coast gangsta rap pioneerIce Cube. On standout track "Interlude - Jammin Sessions," an ethereal tribute to the beloved 808 drum machine, TroyBoi collaborates with Jim Beanz, a protégé of super producer Timbaland who's written and produced songs for the FOX hit TV series Empire and who contributed original music to the longstanding, globally celebrated animated TV show The Simpsons for its 600th episode, a one-hour special dedicated to hip-hop.
While LEFT IS RIGHT represents a full artistic evolution for TroyBoi, it also serves as his musical manifesto to the world. He has remained an independent artist since day one, releasing his music on key indie labels and online channels, in order to keep full creative control over his art. For TroyBoi today, LEFT IS RIGHT represents a deeper meaning beyond creative output: it's his response to the upside-down manifestations of an outdated and often out-of-touch music industry. The album represents his way of doing things and his mode of operation. The album artwork, too, extends the driving message behind LEFT IS RIGHT. Created by artist Marwan Shahin, the art represents TroyBoi's fight against industry-manufactured music, cookie cutter artists and unoriginal art.
"LEFT IS RIGHT represents taking the alternate route in multiple aspects: creating your own lane, but still achieving the end goal no matter the risks," says TroyBoi. "My music is quite hard to place into one genre and is considered 'left' of center, but in my mind it works and feels 'right.'"
