Studio One To Reissue SKA AUTHENTIC On 9/21, Available For The First Time Since 1964
Studio One, the legendary label responsible for starting Jamaica's music industry and for beginning the careers of Bob Marley & The Wailers, Alton Ellis and more, announce the reissue of the 1964 compilation Ska Authentic. To be released on CD, LP and at digital platforms September 21, 2018, the collection is now available for pre-order HERE.
Featuring iconic ska tunes like Tommy McCook's "Freedom Sounds" and vocal performances from The Gaylads, Lee Perry, and the Maytals, the collection features some of the earliest performances from the voices who would reach legendary status in the reggae and ska world. The Maytals' tune "Heaven Declare" that fueled Jamaica's dancehalls in the 1960s is featured on Ska Authentic and is streaming now HERE.
First released in 1964 on LP, Ska Authentic is one of the rarest albums in the entire Studio One catalog. Remastered and featuring the original artwork, the collection offers an obi strip on both the CD and LP written by world-renowned reggae expert and Studio One/Heartbeat Records personality Chris Wilson. See the packaging for the Ska Authentic LP HERE. For the first time in 54 years, the original album is available again on LP and the first time on CD.
Since 2016, Studio One has been partnered with Yep Roc Records to reissue albums from legendary artists such as The Wailers, The Skatalites, The Gladiators, and Freddie McGregor, as well as entirely new compilations of rare and unreleased material from the vaults of Studio One and the House of Joy box set that chronicles the label's unparalleled sixty-year history.
