The JuJu Exchange, the boundary-breaking new jazz band founded by Chance The Rapper bandleader Nico Segal (fka Donnie Trumpet) will play Le Poisson Rouge September 19.

The show will celebrate The JuJu Exchange's debut album Exchange, set for very special physical release September 15. Segal is the 23-year-old trumpeter and bandleader best known for his collaborations with Chance The Rapper, Kanye West, J. Cole, Vic Mensa and many more. The JuJu Exchange is his new project in collaboration with fellow Chicagoans and childhood friends jazz pianist Julian Reid and his brother, drummer Everett Reid, as well as bassist Lane Beckstrom.

The new band emerges from Chicago's storied Savemoney crew, as well as Segal's previous projects The Social Experiment, whose debut album Surf has more than 15 million downloads and 180 million streams to date, and Kids These Days, whose first album Traphouse Rock was produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. The members of The JuJu Exchange have been friends since high school-all are alumni of Merit School of Music and Whitney M. Young High School-and have played together over the years with various other friends and classmates. Recent times found them reconnecting and exploring the possibilities of a proper musical collaboration.

Drawing from hip-hop, jazz, classical and pop music-with inspirations including Kenny Garrett, Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet and Stevie Wonder-the four began to experiment with loose-limbed jam sessions, figuring out how they fit together musically after time apart. With the four of them in the studio and Segal behind the boards alongside longtime friend Nate Fox, Exchange came together in under two weeks.
