Individual members of My Morning Jacket have had a busy 2017. Keyboardist Bo Koster just finished performing with Roger Waters on his Us + Them Tour and will be joining his touring band in 2018 as well. Koster and guitarist Carl Broemel also recently performed on Ray LaMontagne's upcoming 2018 album and Broemel is touring this November in support of his second solo album 4th of July (Thirty Tigers). Heading to Nashville, Louisville, Chicago and more, also traveling on these dates is the band Steelism, who will serve as Carl's backing band and also direct support throughout the tour. All upcoming dates are listed below.
Lead singer and songwriter Jim James has announced Tribute To 2 (ATO Records), a collection of cover songs that were made famous by a wide variety of artists and James now interprets with fresh meaning. To be released December 8, James announced the album with "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" by The Beach Boys. Listen to it HERE. Beginning on street date, Los Angeles-based fans who purchase the album at Amoeba Music can meet Jim James at a rare in-store performance and signing on January 18th 2018. Free and all ages, the event will begin at 6 pm PST that evening.
James will also release a re-issue of Tribute To on December 8, his George Harrison covers EP from 2009, with a new album cover and the bonus track "If Not For You" by Bob Dylan. Pre-order both HERE.
"'I Just Wasn't Made for These Times' is a song that has spoken to me very deeply from the first time I heard it," says Jim James. "So often, many of us just feel like we don't fit in, like somehow we were dropped into the wrong life at the wrong time. This song has such a beautiful way of resonating with that energy and relating to the pain of life on earth, but also offering hope and comfort in the beautiful sounds of togetherness."
Drummer Patrick Hallahan and Craig Pfunder of VHS or Beta have come together to producePetty Fest, a sold-out tribute event to take place on November 22 in Louisville, Kentucky. Bassist Tom Blankenship, Jim James and other artists are confirmed to participate and more info can be found HERE.
"Craig Pfunder and I decided, at the end of a very emotional day, to do something positive with what we were feeling," Hallahan explained. "'Into The Great Wide Open' is what came of that moment, and has become a way for the two of us, along with some of our closest friends, to send our love and gratitude to Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers."
