Louis Armstrong Legacy Saluted in Concert This November

Continuing its annual presentation of jazz concerts in the fall, the Music Institute of Chicago salutes the legacy of Louis Armstrong November 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Ave., Evanston.

Members of the Music Institute's Jazz Studies faculty celebrate the legendary jazz trumpeter, bandleader, singer, soloist, and film star Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, who spent some of his most formative years in Chicago. Among the tunes on the program are "West End Blues," "Struttin' with Some Barbecue," "Big Butter and Egg Man," and "La Vie en Rose."

The Music Institute's 2016-17 Faculty and Guest Artist Series at Nichols Concert Hall continues with a Family Concert: Duke It Out, a classical and jazz version of The Nutcracker featuring several Chicago dance companies, December 10; the Music Institute's Academy Orchestra with organ soloist John W. W. Sherer March 3 at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago and March 4 at Nichols Concert Hall; pianist Sergei Babayan in an all-Bach program May 5; and Chopin International Competition medalist and Academy piano alumna Kate Liu May 20.

The Louis Armstrong Legacy Concert takes place Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue in Evanston.
