Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's fifth White Light Festival, October 7 through November 11, 2014. The multidisciplinary Festival spans 12 venues, and numerous musical traditions and genres. It will include 30 performances, films, and events and feature eight premieres, plus new works and debuts by artists and companies from the United States, Australia, Germany, Pakistan, Poland, the U.K. and South Africa - including the Lincoln Center debut of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Other Festival components include pre- and post-performance artist discussions and the popular post-performance White Light Lounges, where performers and audience members can meet.

The White Light Festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, is focused on the remarkable power of art to reveal the many dimensions of our interior lives.

Said Ms. Moss, "To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the Festival features extraordinary artistic creations by major international artists and ensembles from across a spectrum of Western and Eastern traditions. It is our hope that both new and returning audiences will be deeply inspired and moved by the profound insights and illuminations offered by these presentations."

The Festival opens on October 7 with the U.S. premiere of Peter Sellars' staging of Bach's monumental masterpiece St. Matthew Passion at Park Avenue Armory, with Sir Simon Rattle conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker, and Rundfunkchor Berlin, in a co-presentation with Park Avenue Armory. There will be a pre-festival discussion with Simon Halsey and Peter Sellars on October 6 at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse.

The Festival comes to a close on November 11 with the New York premiere of Lincoln Center's commission of the acclaimed South African director and artist William Kentridge's Winterreise, Franz Schubert's haunting song cycle for voice and piano.Winterreise features a unique visual and staged environment, including 24 animated films to complement the cycle's 24 songs, and will be performed by German baritone Matthias Goerne, one of the foremost interpreters of Schubert song.
