Jon Batiste and Stay Human Come to Kimmel Center Tonight

Jon Batiste and Stay Human year-long residency at the Kimmel Center continues tonight, April 25, 2014, when they return to the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater for debut ticketed performance including work from Social Music, their debut album release (Oct. 15, 2013, Razor & Tie). New York Jazz Leader Jon Batiste and Stay Human have been breathing new life into jazz, reinterpreting the American songbook with pop, funk and rock influences, engaging youth and jazz audiences new explorations of jazz. Their return to Philadelphia on April 25 this season continues their year-long residency and commitment to jazz grassroots programming at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

After a successful Sittin' In Jam session Fall launch on September 11, 2013, Jon Bastiste and Stay human returned for Jazz is Now sold out educational presentation sharing his love of jazz, singing and dancing at Kimmel Center's SEI Innovation Studio on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. As the founder and leader of Stay Human, Batiste has traveled with this ensemble to over 40 countries and at the age of 26 is leading a grassroots movement for the next generation of jazz. With his unique voice and dapper sense of style, Jon Batiste has ignited the NYC music scene as a singer, songwriter, pianist and "harmonaboard" playing with his band Stay Human's recent full length album release, Social Music - follow up to the 2011 release, My N.Y., Jonathan Batiste and the Stay Human Band EP (2011), which was recorded live in the subway system of Manhattan. Batiste has collaborated with Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Wynton Marsalis, to name a few. A Julliard graduate, he is currently the Associate Artistic Director at The National Jazz Museum in Harlem. He has appeared in HBO's Treme, a series of which he and his family were an inspiration.
