Joe Marcinek Band (JMB) has announced a three-night run of shows this December with very special guests Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band, Van Ghost) and Allie Kral (formerly Cornmeal). They will be playing at the Abbey Pub in Chicago on Thursday, December 5th, in Kalamazoo, MI at Papa Pete's Friday, December 6th and in Indianapolis, IN at The Mousetrap on Saturday, December 7th.
Jennifer Hartswick is most well known for playing trumpet with the Trey Anastasio Band, side project of Phish front man Trey Anastasio. Hartswick also has a Chicago connection as a member of local rock band Van Ghost.
Fiddle player Allie Krall, formerly of Chicago bluegrass favorites Cornmeal, sat-in with JMB, this past summer at the music festival Shoe Fest. The two discussed a future collaboration and Kral was the first person Marcinek thought of to fill band mate Stephan Cook's violin spot.
When asked how these shows would be different from last month's JMB run with Steve Molitz (Particle), Marcinek said,
"For that run we did some Particle tunes which led to more of a dance electronic sound in our improv but with Jen and Allie I could see us going more in a funk and roots direction." He then added, "Half the magic is that I have no idea how it will turn out and for some reason I think I like it that way."
Bands Spare Parts and Business as Usual open up for JMB in Chicago, Pleasant Drive will be the local support in Kalamazoo and solo musician Jaik Willis plus the band Funky Junk are the openers in Indianapolis.
