Singer/songwriter and activist Jackson Browne returns to Wolf Trap for a special all-acoustic performance. Since his last appearance in 2010 he released the record Love is Strange (2010), a double live album chronicling his 2006 tour with David Lindley. Browne’s career took off in the early ‘70s with his certified gold self-titled debut in 1972, featuring the Top 10 single “Doctor My Eyes.” Browne’s career exploded throughout the mid and latter part of the ‘70s with several of his proceeding albums attaining platinum status. Throughout the ‘80s he began to incorporate political and social messages into his music and is now recognized as one of the foremost environmental activists of his generation.

Bluegrass fiddler Sara Watkins returns to Wolf Trap for a second time this season. She previously appeared as a guest performer in Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion in May. Watkins released her second solo album this year, Sun Midnight Sun, including a mixture of originals and covers featuring guest appearances from Fiona Apple, Jackson Browne, and several others.

“Popera” singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright returns to Wolf Trap for the first time since his last appearance in 2005. His recently released album, Out of the Game (2012), features his most up-tempo and danceable songs to date. Born into a musical family—his parents are singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III and the late folk singer Kate McGarrigle—Wainwright began performing at the age of 14. Gaining critical acclaim early in his career, Wainwright’s self-titled debut in 1998 won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Album and a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album.

Making her debut at Wolf Trap, indie pop singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson arrives with her captivating lyrics and addictive melodies. Michaelson rose to mainstream fame when a few of her songs were featured on the hit television drama Grey’s Anatomy. Her fifth record, Human Again (2012), features a break from her previous musical ventures with a heavy focus on emotionally driven ballads and a more intimate setting. The record peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard indie charts.

Summerland, Featuring: Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, Lit and Marcy Playground

Grunge-rock band Everclear makes their debut at Wolf Trap as a part of the Summerland tour. Their recently released album, Invisible Stars (2012), marks their first release of original material since 2006’s Welcome to the Drama Club. The band rose to popularity in the mid-90s with the release of their sophomore album, So Much for the Afterglow (1997), which reached platinum status and produced three Top Five hits: “Everything to Everyone,” “Father of Mine,” and “I Will Buy You a New Life.”

Orange County alternative-rock band Sugar Ray makes their debut at Wolf Trap as a part of the Summerland tour. The band’s most recent album, Music for Cougars (2009), marked the end of their five-year hiatus. Getting their start in the mid-‘90s with their debut album, Lemonade and Brownies (1995), Sugar Ray exploded with the 1996 single “Fly.” Their follow-up album, 14:59 (1999), went triple-platinum, and their self-titled 2001 album debuted in the Top 10.

Pop-rock ‘90s favorites the Gin Blossoms make their debut at Wolf Trap on the Summerland tour. Starting off in the late ‘80s on the college-circuit, the band made their leap into the mainstream with the 1993 singles “Hey Jealousy” and “Found Out About You.” Their most recent release, No Chocolate Cake (2010), debuted at No. 73 on the Billboard 200 album chart after selling 7,000 copies in its first week of its release.

The second rock band to come out of Orange County, Lit makes their debut at Wolf Trap on the Summerland tour. Their fifth studio album, The View From the Bottom, was released in June. Popular on the college circuit, the band flew somewhat under the radar until the release of their second album, A Place in the Sun (1999). The album peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard 200 and produced the hit singles "My Own Worst Enemy," which held the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart for 11 weeks.

Rounding out the Summerland tour is the alt-rock trio Marcy Playground. The band’s newest album, Lunch, Recess & Detention, features a compilation of rarities, b-sides, and new material and is scheduled for release in mid-July. Getting their start in the late ‘90s, their self-titled debut (1997) went platinum following the success of single “Sex & Candy.” The hit song spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Experience Gustav Holst’s The Planets at Wolf Trap! Displayed on full HD screens located in-house and over the stage and the lawn, patrons will enjoy the latest images from the Mars Rovers and past probe missions Magellan, Voyager, and Galileo. Supplementing the visuals are Wolf Trap’s resident conductor Emil de Cou, the Choral Arts Society of Washington, and the National Symphony Orchestra as they perform Holst’s musical score live.

Commissioned nearly two centuries ago by the Philharmonic Society of London, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 remains one of the most popular and recognizable pieces in music. Known for their up-beat melodies and feel good lyrics, The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie return to Wolf Trap after their last appearance in 2009’s Hippiefest. Joining the Happy Together Tour 2012, the duo brings some of their greatest hits, including “Happy Together,” “She’d Rather Be Me,” “She’s My Girl,” and “Elenore.”

Lead singer and drummer for the ‘60s rock band The Monkees, Mickey Dolenz returns to Wolf Trap after his last appearance in 2011. Joining the Happy Together Tour 2012, Dolenz is set to perform several of The Monkees’ greatest hits, including “I’m a Believer” and “Daydream Believer.”

San Diego pop-rock band Gary Puckett & The Union Gap return to Wolf Trap after their last appearance in 1986. Joining the Happy Together Tour 2012, the band is known for their mega hits “Woman, Woman” and “Young Girl.”

‘60s pop-rock band The Grass Roots return to Wolf Trap after their last appearance in 1987. Joining the Happy Together Tour 2012, the band is known for their smash hits “Let’s Live for Today” and “Midnight Confessions.”

Chicago-based group The Buckinghams round out the Happy Together Tour 2012, making their debut at Wolf Trap. Their hits include the No. 1 smash “Kind of a Drag,” New Orleans-style “Lawdy Miss Claudy,” and teenage love anthem “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song.”
