Copland House to Celebrate Irving Fine, 11/16

By:

In Grateful Rejoicing honors the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Irving Fine, one of America's most richly-gifted composers, will be celebrated in a program featuring his impressive Violin Sonata and his delectable song cycle, Childhood Fables for Grown-Ups, along with Copland's epic Piano Quartet.

Copland House ensemble - this country's only wide-ranging American repertory ensemble, journeying across 150 years of our nation's rich musical landscape in performances which The New York Times hailed as "all exuberance and bright sunshine", will be joined by the "rich and resonant" (Time Out NY) mezzo-soprano Eve Gigliotti.

It all takes place on Sunday, November 16 at 3 p.m. at the Copland House at Merestead, 455 Byram Lake Road, Mount Kisco, NY.

WHY IRVING FINE? Because he was among Aaron Copland's most important protégés. Fine's highly auspicious career was cut short by his untimely death at only 47, by which time this beloved professor and cultural leader had already founded the Brandeis University Creative Arts Department. Music from Copland House along with pianist Michael Boriskin - Copland House's Artistic and Executive Director - have collectively and individually performed extensive repertoire from the era, and Boriskin's recording of Fine's piano works was the first new recording of Fine's piano music in over 40 years.

Tickets are popularly-priced at $25 ($20 for Friends of Copland House, $10 for students). Various subscription packages are available. For more ticket information, contact Copland House at (914) 788-4659(914) 788-4659 or office@coplandhouse.org, or visit Copland House on the web.
