Additionally, Bird's song, "I Was an Orphan (Till You Came Along)," is currently the theme song for the acclaimed Showtime series, SMILF. The show was recently nominated at the 75th Golden Globe Awards for "Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy."
Bird's most recent release, Echolocations: River, was recorded ankle deep in the Los Angeles River under The Hyperion Bridge. The instrumental release is the second in a series of short films and recordings documenting site-specific compositions. Performed by Bird and filmed by Tyler Manson in remote and acoustically unique environments, the first installment, Echolocations: Canyon, was released in 2015.
Chicago-born, LA-based film score composer, multi-instrumentalist and lyricist, Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. As a teen Bird became interested in a variety of styles including early jazz, country blues and gypsy music, synthesizing them into his unique brand of pop. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, he has released 13 albums, his previous being Are You Serious (2016), of which NPR proclaimed, "[Bird's] writing keeps sounding warmer, sweeter, more thoughtful and approachable, while continuing to land lines that stick with you for days."
Bird's Facebook Live series "Live from the Great Room" is ongoing and streams live from his living room, putting the creative process on display for fans as he performs and converses with friends and collaborators in a candid, intimate setting.Paper hails the series as "compelling as f" and "delightful," while Nerdist praises the "always beautifully done live concerts." Previous guests include Zach Galifianakis, The Lumineers, Jonathan Richman, Fiona Apple, Matt Berninger of The National, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Lucius, Tift Merritt, Dawes, Esperanza Spalding, Jackson Browne, Theaster Gates, Jimbo Mathus of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Dan Wilson, Chris Thile, Blake Mills, John C.
