MINKA to Release the 'Reincarnation' EP

MINKA will release Reincarnation, the final EP in their 2019 trilogy, this Friday, April 12 - modern pop interpretations of 19th century classical repertoire.

Reincarnation is an avant-garde EP in which lead vocalist/songwriter/keyboardist Ari "Dick" Rubin, a classically trained pianist, interprets his favorite vocal pieces by Schubert, Schumann, and Strauss - updating them in his own words, and with electronic production. The source material for "Dark" comes from Schubert's "An Die Musik" - the first German piece Rubin learned. While the original composition served as Schubert's token of gratitude to music itself, Rubin's lyrics are a thank you to the woman in his life.

"our connection isn't merely physical, or emotional. when we touch, you show me your very soul. and in that moment, like Odysseus finally returning to Penelope, i know i'm home," states Ari.

The seven songs on Reincarnation are transmissions from another time, relocated into a context their composers could scarcely have imagined. Set amidst hip-hop beats and Brian Eno-esque soundscapes, ancient melodies serve as a vehicle for an entirely new emotional expression. The original 19th century German "lieder" pieces, written for voice and solo piano accompaniment, are part of a musical tradition that remains under-appreciated, even amongst classical music's fans.

Reincarnation follows the recently released Mysteries of the Heart and End of the Affair EPs - potent blends of intrigue and sexuality, that serve as R&B explorations of all things forbidden.
