KEIGWIN + COMPANY To Present Dark Habits At The Joyce 3/8-13

KEIGWIN + COMPANY will present Dark Habits, a world premiere choreographed by Artistic Director Larry Keigwin, at The Joyce Theater, March 8 - 13. The evening-length work will be performed to live, original music by electro-acoustic cellist Chris Lancaster and pianist Jerome Begin. Dark Habits, inspired by the worlds of fashion and drama, will be the Company's first work preformed to live music. The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street.
KEIGWIN + COMPANY dancers include Matthew Baker, Ashley Browne, Aaron Carr, Kristina Hanna, Larry Keigwin, Liz Riga, Ryoji Sasamoto and Gary Schaufeld.Larry Keigwin and KEIGWIN + COMPANY'S 2010-11 season has included a wide variety of premieres, commissions and special events, beginning in August when Keigwin was named the first artist in residence of the Vail International Dance Festival. The season continued with Keigwin's staging of "Fashion's Night Out: The Show," the opening event of Fashion Week at Lincoln Center and performances at N .Y. City Center's Fall for Dance Festival. In October, Keigwin choreographed the site-specific Bolero Akron, in Ohio.In San Francisco, Keigwin choreographed a workshop of Tales of the City, starring Betty Buckley, at American Conservatory Theatre. The show will receive its world premiere May 17 - June 19 at ACT, and features music by the Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears and John Garden, a libretto by Jeff Whitty of Avenue Q and direction by Jason Moore of Avenue Q and Shrek.2011 began with an appearance in the Dance Gotham Festival at the Skirball Center and will be followed by a performance of Keigwin's Elements at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia on January 19 - 22.
Larry Keigwin is artistic director of KEIGWIN + COMPANY, founded in 2003 to create and share provocative, witty and engaging dances. Combining physicality with theatricality, K+C's electrifying brand of contemporary dance samples a variety of mediums and fuses art with entertainment. K+C has performed at The Kennedy Center, The Joyce Theater, Jacob's Pillow, American Dance Festival and more. Keigwin has created 16 dances, including the large-scale choreographic event Bolero and recent acclaimed works such as Runaway (2008), the site-specific Sidewalk (2009) and Bird Watching (2010). Now a centerpiece of K+C's outreach work, Bolero incorporates a cast of community members and dancers into a tableau of a specific demographic or geographical region. Based on the success of Bolero ADF (2007) and Bolero NYC (2007/2009), K+C has developed Bolero Colorado, Bolero Santa Barbara, Bolero Suburbia and most recently, Bolero Akron.
