SRT Presents 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' on July 18th

By:

Sonnet Repertory Theatre'S take on A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is straightforward. No donkeys on roller skates. No fairies as Martians. Nothing is set in a parking lot. No socioeconomic, political, or environmentalist statements – no! SRT is focused on the text, and the storytelling, continuing its rigorous pursuit of classic theatre for the modern planet with this exploration of Shakespeare's quintessential comedy. So reset your Midsummer tolerance clocks, erase all those preconceived notions, and bring along your love of Shakespeare to Manhattan's Bank Street Theatre, July 18 – 27.

The fairies will all be played by New York City kids! SRT introduces Emerald Angel Young, a third-grader from Queens, to play the role of Puck. Check out SRT's online interview with the young actress at http://sonnetrepertorytheatre.org/mainstage.php. This casting choice, along with the collaboration of professional actors, and storytellers from the community, will illuminate the magic and mischief that is Midsummer.

Featured in the cast: Jack R. Marks (Broadway's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The Queen and the Rebels, Lincoln Center's Hamlet and A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as other MTC, Atlantic, Flea Theatre, and The Guthrie), ERIC Martin Brown (Broadway's Dance of Death), Kit Williamson (Talk Radio, Broadway), John Halbach (Tartuffe, Broadway), Ross Beshear (Scenes From An Execution, Off-Broadway with Paul Rudd), Glenn Peters (Off-Broadway's Richard III, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and The Turn of the Screw), CANDICE MCKOY (Lysistrata at the Classical Theatre of Harlem and As You Like It at ACT), JEFF BURCHFIELD (A Midsummer Night's Dream at BAM), Michael Lluberes (Off-Broadway/National Tours/The Acting Company include American Dreams: Lost and Found, Pudd'nhead Wilson, As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew),and CHANCE CARROLL (As You Like It and Titus Andronicus at Oregon Shakespeare Festival).

Also with Aleyna Bartnick, Charlotte Beede, Lauren Culpepper, Ian Merrigan, Lily Pilblad, Sarah Price, Talli Weiss, and Emerald Angel Young as Puck.

Director Tiffany Little Canfield brings her experience as a casting director at Telsey + Company, one of New York's busiest agencies, to the production, as well as a resume that includes a previous stint at SRT, directing Keith Reddin's Prophets of Nature. Little Canfield is Co-Artistic Director of Sonnet Repertory Theatre, with Todd Loyd.

Rounding out the production team are Garrett Clapp, Jessica Hinkle, Mark Karafin, Hwi-Won Lee, Melanie Montes, Carlos Pacheco, and Christopher Tulysewski.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM plays at the Bank Street Theatre, 155 Bank Street (between Washington & West), NYC on Friday 7/18 – Sunday 7/20 at 7pm / Tuesday 7/22 – Saturday 7/26 at 7pm with Matinees Saturday 7/26 & Sunday 7/27 at 2pm.
