Houston Symphony Celebrates 35th Anniversary of E.T. With Concert, Today

By:

The Houston Symphony will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9, 2017, with a screening of the iconic film complete with John Williams' Academy Award-winning score performed live by the orchestra.

For the concert (E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL-FILM WITH LIVE ORCHESTRA) the Houston Symphony, led by guest conductor Constantine Kitsopoulos, will perform the legendary score in sync with the 1982 blockbuster film, which will be projected on a giant screen above the orchestra. Williams' recognizable score, which includes the string-dominated Flying theme, earned the film an Academy Award for Best Original Score, Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and BAFTA Award for Best Film Music - only the fourth film in history to achieve this feat.

Williams, the most-nominated living person in Academy Award history, has scored of many of Spielberg's highest-grossing films such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan and more. Flying remains one of the most identifiable themes in movie history.

All programs and artists are subject to change.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana Street, in Houston's Theater District. Individual concert tickets start at $35 and are now on sale. For tickets and information, please call (713) 224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
