New York--JS Productions Inc., in cooperation with the Felipe P. de Leon Foundation Inc., presents internationally-acclaimed concert pianist Raul Sunico in concert at the Merkin Concert Hall, Kaufman Music Center (129 W 67th St.) on Saturday, October 21, at 7:30 p.m.

An alumnus of the University of the Philippines and the Juilliard School in New York, Mr. Sunico will show off a diverse repertoire--from the masters of classical music Frédéric Chopin to Sergei Rachmaninoff, from legendary Filipino musicians Felipe de Leon to George Canseco--in celebration of the Filipino-American (Fil-Am) History Month, which was first observed in 1988 and marked the centennial celebration of Filipino migration to the United States in 2006.

"Celebrating the Fil-Am History Month won't be complete and worthwhile if we don't present and showcase our own culture," says concert producer Jerry Sibal.

'Through the music of our own world-class virtuoso Dr. Raul Sunico, our Fil-Ams connect to their roots," adds Sibal, who also collaborated with Mr. Sunico, also former president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), in the 60th-anniversary presentation of de Leon's grand opera "Noli Me Tangere" at the CCP earlier this year.

Mr. Sunico has already performed at the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, Town Hall, and numerous concert halls in the U.S.

He has also been a featured soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Romania's Transylvania Philharmonic Orchestra, Poland's Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra, Taiwan Normal University Wind Orchestra, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Manila Symphony Orchestra, Manila Chamber Orchestra, University of the Philippines Symphony Orchestra, and University of Santo Tomas Symphony Orchestra.

Further, he is the recipient of prestigious awards including the Silver Medal for the Viotti International Piano Competition, Vercelli, Italy, a finalist in the International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy, and the Henry Cowell Prize in the University of Maryland International Piano Competitions. The Italian government has also honored him with Commentadore Award (Order of the Star of Italy.)
