India has its share of problems: illiteracy, overpopulation, corruption, crime, and extreme poverty. Among the chaos and cacophony, it is hard to find the peace, the beauty, the bliss, the magic, and the love that is uniquely Indian. Many are enchanted by this ancient land and are drawn to its color and craze. That is why author Siddharth Gurnani and his friends explore its depths and, while doing so, discover a little bit more about life and how to deal with it a smile at a time.

India - Happiness Is Simple is a coffee table book that takes readers through a journey as Gurnani travels to India during the summer of 2012 in a quest to understand what makes the people of India tick. His fellow companions Kate Wharton, Heta Jangla and Priya Malhotrwere all thrilled with the idea. They started in Bombay and explored the south and north of the wondrous land of India.

Along the way, there were many significant moments that got embedded in their minds and hearts. From the lush terrain of Kerala to the barren beauty of Ladakh, from the Catholic influence in Goa to the Buddhist Tibetan communities in Himachal, from the banana-leaf meals of the south to the butter-laden meals of the north, from the sixteen-hour train journey to the stroll on the double-humped camels, from the suit sellers to the fruit sellers, from the mosques to the temples, from one city to the other, from one state to the other, from one region to the next, they had managed to experience what many do not in a lifetime.

India - Happiness Is Simple lets readers seek and discover more about India and its people, its customs, and quirks through candid photographs and detailed descriptions. It shares an important lesson that one must seek and have a curiosity for; the path of existence is not without its share of treacherous cliffs and obstacles, but there is one truth that makes it exciting and beautiful, and that is, "happiness is simple." Indeed, India and its people are a breathing, living example of this truth.

About the Author

Siddharth Gurnani was born on August 10, 1989, in New Delhi, India. The first of two children, he grew up at a time when India was ushering in a new age of liberalization and globalization. His childhood was simple and full of great memories of travels around the country with friends and family. After spending the first eighteen years of his life in India, he moved to the United States to pursue an undergraduate degree after high school. Over the course of five years at the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology, he got himself a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, spent four months in France, worked at Delta Airlines, and was one of the editors at his college newspaper.

Gurnani always had a knack for writing, making keen observations about the places, people, and things he encountered in his daily life. His girlfriend and an English language purist, Sana, brought out the best in his writing as he pursued a trans-continental romance through messages, letters, and notes. His first foray into writing for an audience was a blog he started when traveling through Europe. What started off as a travel blog became a means and space for him to express his feelings on the many things he was experiencing as he transformed from a boy to a young adult. He later took on a more formal writing role at his college newspaper as editor. As the lead of the "Focus" section, he revamped it to be more readable and pertinent to the student body and got many good reviews from students, professors, and administrators. Gurnani is now a human capital consultant for Deloitte Consulting in the United States. He continues to look for and write about stuff he observes around him, be it a food review or a piece on behavior and human reactions, a reflection of how he perceives the world one day at a time.
