In his 2009 memoir "Doctor To The World Champions: My Autobiography" (published by Trafford Publishing) author Neil Phillips recounts for readers his lifetime of practicing medicine and building a successful life and family, and his experiences with the 1960s English World Cup football team.

"Doctor To The World Champions" follows Phillips' career in sports medicine, especially his years as one of the sports physicians who assisted the England World Cup team. In his role assisting Alf Ramsey, Phillips was there when the English team won the World Cup in 1966, and still there when they lost it in 1970. His anecdotes reference popular footballers, including team captain Bobby Moore, who called Phillips "just one of the squad."

"This book will appeal to all those interested in sports and provide the reader with an inside, behind-the-scenes view of England winning and losing the World Cup in 1966 and 1970," Phillips says. "It is most unusual to have a layman so intimately involved with professional football."
