CHETWYND, British Columbia

Having raised canaries for several years, author Linda Franklin came to realize that the stories people told her about birds were actually proverbial "encouraging words" from God. In "Just a Little Higher: A Collection of True Stories about Women and the Special Birds Who Encouraged Them" (published by Inspiring Voices), Franklin shares 11 fascinating stories of women who received answers to their prayers from birds sent by God.

"Just a Little Higher" is the first book in the On a Wing and a Prayer series. This poignant collection of stories tells about women in desperate need of comfort - women who receive the comfort they seek from very special birds delivering messages of hope, right on time.

"Sometimes, when life is dark, God has to use a language we can understand," Franklin explains. "That is when he sometimes sends a little angel in the form of a bird, to help us 'hear His love' a little better."

Franklin hopes that readers will learn how God can touch human beings with healing through animals. She explains that even Christians get used to looking for their answers on ground level, and that sometimes everyone needs to look a little higher to see their answers and encouragement hovering just above them.

"Just a Little Higher" is followed in the On a Wing and a Prayer series by "Staying Aloft" and "Climbing the Heights," two additional books filled with true stories about extraordinary birds meeting the particular needs of very special people.

"On a Wing and a Prayer is a grand collection of true stories that the entire family will enjoy!"
- Penny Porter, contributing author to 15 Chicken Soup for the Soul books
