100 percent of cities with a population of more than 250,000 report gang activity, teenviolencestatistics.com and Richard Quarantello writes his new memoir that embodies his experiences as an adolescent involved in the New York gangs during the 1960s.

Quarantello's first book "Surviving the Warzone" captivates his vivacious life experiences while battling with non-organized and organized gangs in New York and how he escaped the troubled lifestyle.

"The origin of the book title came from other 'Brooklynites' asking me where I'm from, when I told people East New York Brooklyn they would always refer to my neighborhood as the War Zone," Quarantello said.

The title, "Surviving the Warzone," can also be interpreted as his experience in the military during the Vietnam War, receiving three purple hearts.

"I want this book to be an inspiration to today's gang members to be the good character in life no matter your environment," Quarantello said.
