VICTORIA, Australia - Hoping to help people understand more about the end of life, author Judith A. Sommerville wrote "Dying, Grief, and the Other Side: Assistance with Making Peace and Transitioning with Dignity" (published by Balboa Press AU) to help people overcome a fear of death.

"We all have to face death," Sommerville says. "Although it's inevitable - or perhaps because it's inevitable - death can be our biggest fear. And when we fear death, we can't be there for others in their times of transition."

"Dying, Grief, and the Other Side" shares many things Sommerville, who herself used to be petrified of death, learned during her 25 years arranging funerals and providing end-of-life care for people. The book discusses the needs of the dying, natural and complementary therapies that can help relieve pain, explanations of near-death experiences and the grieving processes many people experience.

Sommerville hopes her book will provoke important conversations when people discuss their end-of-life wishes. She also wants readers to learn what is required to nurse a loved one at home and that, following the death of a loved one, grief is natural.
