LOWER SACKVILLE, Nova Scotia

In her debut suspense novel, "Dangerous Beginnings" (published by iUniverse), Barbara McKinley Morrison incorporates the realities of Mexican drug trafficking into a fictional story starring a dynamic and intuitive leading lady.

Susan is a lonely widow in need of a change. Though she has been living in Canada for three years following the death of her husband, Susan decides to return to the small Mexican town of Bucerias. However, things in Bucerias are not exactly as Susan remembered - or hoped.

Crime is almost unheard of in Bucerias, but time after time, Susan finds herself in thieves' crosshairs. She befriends a street boy named Rat who comes to her aid in many difficult situations, but soon both Susan and Rat find their lives in danger. Susan came to Bucerias looking for a change, but she didn't expect to wind up fighting for her life.

This quick read mixes mystery with love and danger while warning readers about the prevalence of the counterfeit pharmaceutical drug trade and the importance of honing and listening to one's gut feelings.

"This story is about a lonely widow's journey to find her true self and do her small part in a crime stopping battle while evolving the sense of intuition we all have and don't listen to," Morrison says. "She is a lonely, alone woman, but her strength, humor and intuition find her again as she begins her adventure."
